Trail Blazers 116, Clippers 112 (OT): LaMarcus Aldridge collected 32 points and 10 rebounds as Portland escaped from visiting Los Angeles.
Nicolas Batum scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer with 5.8 seconds left to force overtime, and Wesley Matthews had four of his 19 in overtime for the Blazers. Damian Lillard added 14 points and Robin Lopez recorded 11 points and 15 boards as Portland improved to 12-2 at home.
Chris Paul scored eight of his 34 points in the final 2:13 of regulation and added 16 assists and six steals as the Clippers suffered back-to-back losses. Blake Griffin had 35 points and 11 rebounds, Jamal Crawford scored 21 points and DeAndre Jordan grabbed 19 rebounds for Los Angeles.
The Blazers held a 91-80 lead after Lillard’s 3-pointer with 7:07 left but Crawford and Griffin connected from beyond the arc on back-to-back possessions and Crawford buried another 3-pointer with 4:52 left to cap an 11-0 burst and knot it at 91. The Clippers took their first lead since early in the first quarter on Paul’s jumper with 1:07 to play.
Paul, who missed three shots that would have tied the game in the final minute of Wednesday’s loss at Golden State, traded baskets with Aldridge to keep Los Angeles on top and buried a fadeaway from the right baseline with 9.3 seconds left to make it a 101-98 advantage. Batum’s 3-pointer forced overtime before Aldridge put up seven points and Portland went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 26 seconds of the extra session to seal it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles held a 54-22 advantage on points in the paint despite being outrebounded 60-48. … The Blazers have scored at least 100 points in 16 straight games. … The NBA said earlier Thursday that the second technical foul called on Griffin on Wednesday that led to his ejection early in the fourth quarter against the Warriors should have only been a personal foul.
