MAGIC 81, PACERS 77: Jason Richardson hit the go-ahead 3-pointer to cap a 17-point effort as visiting Orlando rallied to win the opener of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.
Jameer Nelson had 17 points and nine assists and Glen Davis added 16 points and 13 rebounds for Orlando, which closed the game with 11 consecutive points.
David West scored 19 points, Danny Granger added 17 points and Roy Hibbert had 13 rebounds and a career-high nine blocked shots for the Pacers.
Game 2 is Monday at Indiana.
Richardson made five 3-pointers and his final one with 1:04 to play lifted Orlando to a 78-77 lead. Nelson hit two free throws with 24.5 seconds left and J.J. Redick converted one of two with 6.9 seconds remaining.
Indiana had a chance to tie the contest prior to Redick’s free throw but Davis forced Granger to travel with 7.5 seconds left.
Orlando scored just 30 second-half points but held Indiana scoreless over the final 4:05. The Pacers, who shot 34.5 percent, missed their final nine shots.
Indiana led 77-70 before its drought with Orlando taking the one-point lead after Richardson hit back-to-back 3 pointers.
The Magic led 68-67 early in the fourth quarter before Indiana used a string of eight straight points. Tyler Hansbrough’s hoop put the Pacers ahead and West followed with back-to-back baskets. Paul George’s tip culminated the spurt and gave Indiana a 75-68 edge with 5:05 remaining.
Indiana jumped out to a 17-7 lead seven minutes into the game but Orlando led 51-44 at halftime behind 30 second-quarter points. Hibbert had six first-half blocks.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hibbert fell one block short of the NBA playoff record shared by Utah’s Mark Eaton (1985) and Houston’s Hakeem Olajuwon (1990) … Magic forward Ryan Anderson had just five points on 2-of-7 shooting … Pacers guard Leandro Barbosa (ankle) played 20 minutes and had three points … Orlando shot 39.5 percent from the field.
