Kevin Martin put on a shooting display with 45 points, but the Houston Rockets wasted it by going nine minutes without a basket down the stretch in a 103-100 loss to the visiting Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
LaMarcus Aldridge, who has dominated the Rockets over the years, had 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Trail Blazers closed the game on a 27-11 run.
Aldridge scored 14 of his 25 points in the decisive third quarter in Saturday's home win over Houston and has scored at least 20 points in each of his last seven visits to the Toyota Center.
Martin made 13-of-18 shots, including 6-of-8 from the arc, and missed just two of 15 free throws. He scored 19 points in the third period, when Houston outscored Portland, 33-19, to take an 80-74 lead.
The Rockets built the lead to 11 points before Portland responded by hitting some shots from the arc and going inside to Aldridge. Rudy Fernandez hit a left-wing jumper off the dribble as the shot clock ran down for a 98-97 lead with 52 seconds remaining and Aldridge added a lefthanded baby hook for a three-point edge with 13 seconds to go.
Houston's Luis Scola missed a hook and Aldridge and Andre Miller sank three free throws around a 3-pointer by Kyle Lowry, setting up one last chance for the Rockets to tie with two seconds left. However, Courtney Lee’s off-balance 3-pointer from the right wing bounced off the side of the iron.
