Alex Cobb threw six shutout innings and the San Francisco Giants took advantage of a dropped flyball by All-Star center fielder Julio Rodriguez for an important run in a 2-0 victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.

Taylor Rogers, Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval combined with Cobb (6-2) on a seven-hitter, helping the Giants avoid a three-game sweep while snapping a four-game losing streak.

Promoted from the minors pregame to make just his second start of the season, Tommy Milone (0-1) was the hard-luck loser for Seattle, which saw a four-game winning streak end.

The Giants scored their first run with the help of a Milone leadoff walk to Brandon Crawford in the third. Crawford advanced to third on the first of Wilmer Flores' three hits, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by LaMonte Wade Jr.

A one-out walk got Milone in trouble in the fifth, as Flores followed again with a single, sending Austin Slater to second.

Wade then sent a high, deep fly to center field, and Rodriguez, after parking under it on the warning track, simply had it kick off his glove for an error. Slater scored to make it 2-0.

Milone was pulled at that point, having allowed just one earned run on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and did not record a strikeout.

Cobb, who pitched four straight Giants wins in June despite only getting one decision, ran his personal unbeaten streak to five games by limiting the Mariners to six hits in his six innings. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

The shutout was the Giants' eighth of the season, the third of which was started by Cobb. It was the fifth start this year in which he did not allow a run.

The win improved San Francisco's record in Cobb's starts to 12-4.

The Mariners got a runner at least to second base four times in Cobb's six innings, but they finished 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Rogers brothers and Doval combined to allow just one hit with two strikeouts in their three innings, with Doval picking up his 25th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Luis Matos had a triple and a single for the Giants, who out-hit the Mariners 8-7.

Rodriguez, J.P. Crawford and Cal Raleigh all had a double and a single for Seattle, which was shut out for the fifth time this season.
