PHOENIX -- Yangervis Solarte hated his time on the disabled list. Arizona hated the fact that he is back.
Solarte homered from each side of the plate, and Matt Kemp and Derek Norris also homered to help San Diego left-hander Christian Friedrich to his first victory in almost four years in the Padres' 10-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night at Chase Field.
Solarte has three homers in his last two games since returning Saturday from six-week stay on the disabled list because of a hamstring injury.
"Watching games from home is not nice, it's not fun," Solarte said through an interpreter. "It's good to be back."
Kemp and Solarte hit back-to-back homers in a four-run fifth inning off Arizona starter Robbie Ray (2-4) and Solarte hit a three-run homer in a four-run sixth. Solarte has five hits, including a double and three homers and six RBIs in his last three games.
"I'm getting my timing back," said Solarte, whose homers both came on changeups.
Norris also homered in the fifth to help the Padres (20-29) break a four-game losing streak.
Friedrich (1-1) gave up three singles in seven scoreless innings for his first victory since July 13, 2012, with Colorado.
"He showed why we believe in him," Padres manager Andy Green said.
Friedrich, who made a career-high 68 relief appearances for Colorado last season, struck out five and walked one. He signed a minor league contract with the Padres on March 3 and was purchased May 13. This was his third start with San Diego.
"I didn't know I went a whole year last year without a win put of the pen," Friedrich said. "I thought maybe I snaked one in. It's definitely nice to hear. I wouldn't be in the spot I am in if they hadn't given me an opportunity to start here. Very grateful."
Brandon Drury hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Jake Lamb hit a pinch-homer in the ninth for Arizona (21-29), which has lost four in a row and 11 of 15.
Matt Kemp had three hits and an RBI and Norris drove in three runs. Jon Jay, Melvin Upton Jr., Alexei Ramirez and Travis Jankowski also had two hits apiece for the Padres, whose 18 hits were one short of a season high.
"We saw the offensive explosion we've been waiting for," Green said.
Jay led off the game with a single and scored on Upton Jr.'s two-out single for a 1-0 lead in the first.
Jay doubled and scored on Wil Myers' single in the third to make it 2-0.
Kemp and Solarte hit back-to-back homers off Ray with one out in the fifth. Brett Wallace's two-out, shift-beating single to left field knocked out Ray and Norris hit the fourth pitch from reliever Domonic Leone to make it 6-0.
"It is just frustrating because I know I am better than that," Ray said.
Ray gave up nine hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked two.
"He is going to get better," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "His stuff is already better. He is competing, but this is part of the process. It can get ugly at times. It is a beautiful game. It can turn quickly for him."
Solarte hit a three-run homer and Norris had an RBI double for a 10-0 lead in the sixth.
NOTES: Arizona RHP Shelby Miller (finger) and RHP Rubby De La Rosa (ulnar collateral ligament sprain) were placed on the disabled list. RHP Archie Bradley is to start in Miller's spot on Sunday, manager Chip Hale said, and LHP Edwin Escobar is to start Monday. Neither has been promoted. De La Rosa had an MRI on Friday and is expected to be out an extended period. The Diamondbacks plan to consult with Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on De La Rosa on Aug. 9, 2011. ... Arizona also activated RHP Josh Collmenter (shoulder) from the DL and recalled OF Peter O'Brien and RHPs Silvino Bracho and Dominic Leone from Triple-A Reno and optioned LHP Andrew Chafin and RHP Evan Marshall to Reno. Chafin has given up 17 runs in 17 innings. ... San Diego LHP Matt Thornton was in the clubhouse on Friday and could be activated this weekend. "It's a realistic possibility," Padres manager Andy Green said. ... Friday was the 25th anniversary of the play on which Triple-A Vancouver OF Rodney McCray ran through the right-field fence at Portland Civic Stadium while chasing a long fly ball hit by then-Portland 2B Chip Hale. "I was struggling that season," Hale said. "As his face hit the wall, the ball hit his glove. For a minute, I thought, 'I'm out again.' But then the ball came shooting back into the infield because of the force of his face hitting.' I ran, obviously hoping he was OK. Partially. The other part seeing how far I could get before the ball got back to the infield." Hale ended up with a triple.
