HOUSTON -- George Springer watched Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Tyler Clippard retire the first five batters he faced with relative ease, a fact that didn't prompt the Houston Astros right fielder to overthink his pending at-bat.

Springer bested Clippard by drilling a walk-off home run with two outs in the 11th inning, carrying the Astros to a 5-4 victory on Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park.

Springer sent the first pitch of his sixth plate appearance 409 feet to left-center field for his first career walk-off homer. His 13th homer of the season delivered the Astros (25-29) their fifth consecutive victory.

"I was just trying to hit the ball hard somewhere to get to first base for Jose (Altuve) and (Carlos) Correa," said Springer, who finished 2-for-5 with a walk. "I was able to get something that I could hit and I just hit it hard.

"It was awesome. I knew that I had hit it well, and obviously for our squad right there, it's a big hit. I was happy to help us win."

The Diamondbacks (23-32) dropped their seventh game in nine contests, including three in succession against the Astros.

Astros right-hander Michael Feliz (4-1) earned the win with two perfect innings of relief, recording four strikeouts. Clippard (2-2) also totaled four strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks mustered a surprising rally against Houston closer Luke Gregerson, who was pitching for the fourth time in five games.

The Astros extended to a 4-1 lead in the eighth when pinch hitter Tony Kemp delivered a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Marwin Gonzalez.

In the ninth, Gregerson coughed up the advantage. He plunked Jean Segura with a pitch before surrendering a run-scoring double to Michael Bourn. Two batters later, Jake Lamb launched the first pitch of his at-bat into the Astros bullpen, his ninth home run, pulling the Diamondbacks even.

"He beat us last night," Lamb said of Gregerson, who earned the save in the Astros' 8-5 win on Tuesday. "It was nice to battle back and get him out of the game like that. But at the end of day, we lost the game. We have to get over this one, show up tomorrow and try to get a win."

After striking out with the bases loaded in the third, Correa and catcher Evan Gattis rallied the Astros with two outs in the fifth inning.

Correa rifled an RBI single to right field that scored Altuve with the tying run. Gattis then smacked his sixth homer of the season to left field off Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray for a 3-1 Houston lead.

Astros starter Mike Fiers worked six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Ray surrendered three runs on six hits and two walks in five innings while striking out six.

"This is a young pitcher who executed a lot of good pitches tonight against a very hot-hitting team," Arizona manager Chip Hale said of Ray.

Fiers wobbled early but had the full support of an exceptional defense.

Center fielder Carlos Gomez delivered a pair of sparkling plays behind Fiers, erasing Bourn, who was attempting to go first to third on a one-out single in the first. Gomez victimized Bourn again in the third, tracking down a deep fly ball to left-center before making a leaping catch at the wall for the second out.

Fiers uncorked a wild pitch that scored Brandon Drury in the third, but left fielder Jake Marisnick later added a diving grab to end the frame.

Gattis cut down two would-be basestealers, nailing Segura in the first and Yasmany Tomas to cap an inning-ending double play in the fifth.

"Our outfield defense -- all of them were competing for highlight of the night," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "That's the most athletic outfield I can put out there. ... We did a great job of defending and coming up with big plays."

NOTES: Arizona manager Chip Hale plans to start Rickie Weeks Jr. at designated hitter in both games against the Astros in an attempt to get the infielder regular at-bats. Before going 2-for-4 on Wednesday, Weeks had only 53 at-bats in 38 games with the Diamondbacks. ... Evan Gattis made a second consecutive start behind the plate for Houston and his third in four games, the first time this season he worked with such frequency as the backstop. After catching RHP Mike Fiers on Wednesday, the only member of the rotation that Gattis hasn't caught is LHP Dallas Keuchel. ... Diamondbacks OF David Peralta is nearing a return from the 15-day disabled list, with a couple of extended spring training games on tap before a potential recall this weekend when Arizona visits the Cubs. Peralta landed on the DL on May 15 because of right wrist inflammation.
