Yankees 7, Athletics 0: David Phelps combined with two relievers on a two-hit shutout as visiting New York won its fourth straight contest.

Phelps (2-4) halted a personal four-start losing streak, limiting Oakland to two hits and three walks while recording four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Dellin Betances fanned two in 1 1/3 frames and Jose Ramirez worked a perfect ninth to seal the victory.

Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki and Brian Roberts each recorded two hits and an RBI for the Yankees, who improved to 5-2 on their nine-game road trip. Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and also drove in a run along with Mark Teixeira and Kelly Johnson.

Jed Lowrie doubled and Derek Norris added a single for the Athletics, who lost for only the fifth time in 13 games. Sonny Gray (6-3) allowed three runs and seven hits over six frames, walking one while striking out seven.

New York jumped on Gray early as Gardner, Derek Jeter and Ellsbury opened the game with consecutive singles for a 1-0 lead and Teixeira followed with a sacrifice fly. The Yankees struck again with one out in the second, when Roberts reached on an infield single and scored on Gardner's base hit two batters later.
