Yankees 3, Twins 1: Masahiro Tanaka dominated in his first home start in nearly a month to lift New York to its fifth win in seven games.
Brian McCann doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Yangervis Solarte slugged a solo homer for the Yankees. Tanaka (8-1) permitted only an unearned run and four singles in eight innings while striking out nine to reduce his American League-leading ERA to 2.06.
David Robertson worked around an error to strike out the side in the ninth for his 12th save as New York won for just the fourth time in its last 12 home games. Kevin Correia allowed one run on nine hits in six innings for Minnesota, which was outhit 12-4.
An error and a wild pitch set up Josh Willingham's run-scoring hit in the first for the Twins and the Yankees failed to score after loading the bases with no outs in the bottom half. Solarte turned around a 3-1 slider from Correia with two outs in the fourth to tie it with his sixth home run of the year.
Jacoby Ellsbury singled with one out in the eighth against Brian Duensing (1-2) before stealing second and racing to third on a throwing error by catcher Josmil Pinto. After a walk to Brian Roberts, McCann lined a shot down the right-field line to plate Ellsbury with the decisive run and Kelly Johnson added an infield RBI hit to cap the scoring.
