Athletics 2, Mariners 1: Brandon Moss homered to center field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Oakland over visiting Seattle.
Moss drilled a pitch from Carter Capps (2-3) for his 19th homer, handing the Mariners their 10th walk-off loss of the season. The blast allowed the Athletics to remain one-half game behind the first-place Texas Rangers in the American League West.
Jarrod Parker (9-6) gave up one run and eight hits with eight strikeouts in the first complete-game effort of his career. The right-hander extended his unbeaten streak to 15 starts as Oakland stretched its lead for the AL’s second wild-card berth to four games over the Baltimore Orioles.
The Athletics pushed across a run in the fourth, when Josh Reddick started the inning with a single and scored three batters later on Josh Donaldson’s fielder’s choice. Seattle tied it in the seventh as Nick Franklin singled and advanced to second when right fielder Reddick muffed the ball, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sharp single to right by Kendrys Morales.
Mariners starter Aaron Harang allowed one run and five hits in seven innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Mariners OF Michael Morse missed his second straight game due to left wrist soreness. … Oakland CF Coco Crisp (wrist) started for the first time since August 11 and went 0-for-4. … Seattle manager Eric Wedge (stroke) is slated to resume his duties Friday, according to interim manager Robby Thompson.
