Yankees 7, Blue Jays 1: Alfonso Soriano hit a pair of homers, including the 400th of his major-league career, as visiting New York trampled Toronto.

Soriano finished with four RBIs while Andy Pettitte (10-9) threw seven scoreless innings to pace the Yankees, who rebounded from a 5-2 loss in Monday's series opener. The victory kept New York within 7 1/2 games of first-place Boston in the American League East and 4 1/2 of Oakland for the second wild-card spot.

Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ (3-4) was tagged for five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

After Derek Jeter's RBI single in the first inning opened the scoring, Robinson Cano was hit in the hand by a pitch and Soriano followed with a three-run blast into the second deck in left field. Soriano padded the lead in the third with a solo shot to left, his 28th of the season - and 11th since the Yankees re-acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in July.

Mark Reynolds got in on the action with a solo homer to left in the sixth, and Alex Rodriguez - serenaded by a chorus of boos each time he came to the plate - added to the Toronto fans' ire with a blast over the center-field wall in the seventh. Toronto's lone run came in the eighth on an RBI double by Kevin Pillar.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cano exited the game after scoring on Soriano's homer in the first inning. X-rays were negative and he's listed as day-to-day with a left hand contusion. INF Eduardo Nunez, Cano's replacement, exited after the eighth with a knee injury and 1B Reynolds moved over to 2B for the final frame. ... The Yankees own a 13-2 edge in the season series. ... Toronto has surrendered 75 runs in the first inning this season, one more than it allowed all of 2012.
