Orioles 7, Yankees 3: J.J. Hardy hit a go-ahead three-run homer during a seven-run seventh inning as visiting Baltimore came back to stun New York and avoid a three-game sweep.

Adam Jones added a three-run blast and Matt Wieters singled in a run during the big inning for the Orioles, who jumped a half-game in front of the Yankees into third place in the American League East. Baltimore closed to within three games of the Tampa Bay Rays for the second AL wild card spot.

Kevin Gausman (2-3) worked two scoreless innings and picked up the win after Wei-Yin Chen was knocked around for three runs on four hits and five walks in four innings.

New York built a 3-0 lead as Andy Pettitte recorded six scoreless innings. Pettitte surrendered a pair of singles leading off the seventh before being replaced by right-hander Shawn Kelley (4-2), who immediately surrendered Wieters’ RBI single to left-center.

Hardy followed and drove a fastball to right field, where it just made it over the glove of Curtis Granderson and rolled along the top of the wall before being grabbed by a fan for the go-ahead blast. Joba Chamberlain came on in relief and Jones capped the inning with a blast to straightaway center.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baltimore OF Mike Morse made his first appearance with the team since being acquired from the Seattle Mariners and went 2-for-4 with a run scored. … Hardy’s home run off Kelley marked the first lead surrendered by a Yankees reliever since Aug. 11. … New York welcomed INF David Adams, RHP Brett Marshall, RHP Dellin Betances, C J.R. Murphy and LHP Cesar Cabral. To clear some room on the 40-man roster, OF Melky Mesa was given his unconditional release.
