Braves 4, Dodgers 3: Juan Francisco delivered a pinch-hit RBI single with two out in the bottom of the 11th to lift host Atlanta to its fourth straight victory in the opener of a three-game series.
David Ross started the winning uprising with a two-out single to right against Brandon League (0-1) and advanced to third on Paul Janish’s third single of the contest. Jamey Wright entered and Francisco hit his curveball into left field to score Ross with the game-winning run.
Jonny Venters (5-3) worked out of a jam in the top of the 11th for Atlanta.
The Dodgers had a 3-1 lead behind Chris Capuano heading to the bottom of eighth. Janish and pinch hitter Reed Johnson began the inning with singles and moved up on Michael Bourn’s sacrifice bunt.
Ronald Belisario replaced Capuano and Martin Prado drove in a run on a groundout before Jason Heyward laced the game-tying single to left-center field.
Chipper Jones hit his third homer in two games in the second inning for Atlanta’s first run.
The lead held up until Mark Ellis doubled in the sixth and scored on Andre Ethier’s two-run homer, a shot off Tommy Hanson that landed deep into the right-field bleachers.
The Dodgers made it 3-1 in the seventh when Luis Cruz led off with a double and scored when Victorino sliced a two-out double over the head of Prado in left.
Capuano was charged with three runs and five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
Hanson allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings in his first outing since July 30 due to lower back issues. Hanson struck out five and walked two.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cruz reached base five times on three hits and two walks. … The Braves signed LHP Daniel Rodriguez to a minor-league contract. Rodriguez led the Mexican League with 135 strikeouts and will report to Triple-A Gwinnett. … Ethier’s homer was his first since going deep against the San Diego Padres on July 14. … Atlanta optioned reliever Cory Gearrin to Triple-A Gwinnett to open up a roster spot for Hanson.
