Chris Young homered and matched a season-high with four RBIs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 victory over the host Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Young had three hits and lefthander Joe Saunders (5-7) allowed two runs in seven-plus innings to continue his mastery of the Athletics as Arizona won for only the second time in seven games.
Saunders improved to 12-4 all-time against Oakland - the first 11 wins came when he was with the Los Angeles Angels. David Hernandez pitched the ninth for his third save.
Young hit his 16th homer in the fourth, a two-run shot off Josh Outman (3-3) following a two-out walk to Justin Upton.
Arizona had three singles in the first as Willie Bloomquist scored on Young’s single to right.
Young delivered a bouncing double just inside the third-base line in the third to score Kelly Johnson from first.
Saunders allowed eight hits, one walk and struck out three, and gave way to Yhency Brazoban after the first two runners reached base in the eighth. The Athletics pulled within 4-2 on Scott Sizemore’s groundout and a run-scoring single by Hideki Matsui.
Outman allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings.
