Lorenzo Cain singled in the winning run in the bottom of 11th to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-7 triumph over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.
Ryan Braun singled off Wil Ledezma (0-1) leading off the inning and Prince Fielder, who homered twice in the contest, reached on an error before Ledezma recovered to retire Casey McGehee. But Cain got to the left-hander, sending a single into left to plate the game-winner.
The Pirates held a 7-4 lead after Neil Walker’s homer in the top of the seventh before the bullpen let them down. Sean Gallagher started the frame and allowed a single to Ryan Braun before being replaced by left-hander Brian Burres.
Fielder greeted Burres with his 28th homer of the season and second of the game to cut it to 7-6, forcing Pittsburgh to use its third reliever of the frame in Chan Ho Park.
The right-hander allowed a single and stolen base to Lorenzo Cain before sending him to third with a wild pitch. Cain would come in to score the tying run on Pedro Alvarez’s fielding error.
The Pirates jumped out to a 6-2 lead after Chris Snyder’s three-run homer in the third but Milwaukee got solo blasts from Fielder in the third and Jonathan Lucroy in the sixth to stay in the game.
