Jay Bruce started the scoring with a home run in the first and finished it with a base hit in the 10th inning as the Cincinnati Reds dropped the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 on Monday night.

It was Bruce's 18th dinger of the year and he drove in his 58th RBI with a single to end things. He now has five home runs and eight RBIs over his last four games. It was also his second walk-off hit of the year.

The win moved Cincinnati to six full games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central.

Francisco Cordero (5-4) picked up the win with one inning of scoreless relief, while Trevor Hoffman (2-7) took the loss allowing two hits, including Bruce’s single in the 10th.

Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey went six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, while striking out four and walking two. He was moving along smoothly until he allowed a two-out walk to Lorenzo Cain, who then stole second. Alcides Escobar tripled to bring Cain in.

Milwaukee catcher Casey McGehee had two hits and an RBI double, while Ryan Braun also had two hits for the Brewers. The Brewers did take advantage of Bailey’s long delivery and stole four bags with him on the hill.

Milwaukee starter Randy Walked five over five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits.
