Corey Davis Jr. scored a career-high 31 points as 12th-ranked Houston captured its first outright league championship since the 1983-84 season with an 85-69 victory over host Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.

Nate Hinton and Armoni Brooks each made four 3-pointers for the American Athletic Conference champion Cougars (29-2, 16-2), who claimed their first regular-season title since securing a share of the Southwest Conference championship in 1992.

Jarron Cumberland scored 20 points for the 20th-ranked Bearcats (25-6, 14-4), who fell short in their bid for a share of the title and saw their 16-game home winning streak come to an end.

Cincinnati's Nysier Brooks, who entered the game averaging 7.8 points per contest this season, erupted for 10 of his team's 21 first points after 12 minutes had expired. He finished with 16 points.

Davis shot 10-of-22 from the field to eclipse his previous career high of 26, set three different times in February.

The senior guard scored eight straight points before Brooks drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to cap a 35-12 run that wiped out a six-point deficit and gave the Cougars a 76-59 lead with 4:25 remaining in the second half.

Houston answered a 1-for-10 stretch from the field to begin the second half by going 4-for-5 during an 11-0 run to claim a 52-47 lead with 12 minutes to play. Hinton drained back-to-back 3-pointers and Fabian White Jr. capped his team's spirited surge with an emphatic dunk.

Hinton drilled his fourth 3-pointer to put Cincinnati on its heels before Davis converted a 3-point play and sank a jumper to push Houston's lead to 70-57.

Cincinnati led for almost all of the first 18 minutes of the first half before Houston benefited from a late 9-2 run to claim a 37-35 advantage at intermission. Davis powered the surge with a jumper, 3-pointer and two free throws to account for seven of his team's final nine points.

Houston forward Breaon Brady, who had 16 points in a 90-79 win over Southern Methodist on Thursday, was mired in foul trouble from the start. The Ohio native finished with zero points.
