Miami (Fla.) 77, Charlotte 58: Sheldon McClellan had 19 points and eight rebounds as the Hurricanes pulled away from the 49ers in the second half to win the Charleston Classic for the second time in as many tries.

Manu Lecomte scored 15 points while Angel Rodriguez added 13 points, five steals and five assists and was named tournament MVP for Miami (5-0), which also won this event in 2009. James Palmer tallied 12 points while Tonye Jekiri contributed 11 points and joined Rodriguez on the all-tournament team.

Mike Thorne Jr. led all scorers with 19 points for Charlotte (3-1), which saw its eight-game regular-season tournament winning streak snapped. Pierria Henry was the only other 49er in double figures with 11 points as Charlotte could not overcome 19 turnovers.

Each team knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half and Ivan Benkovic capped a back-and-forth opening 15-plus minutes with his third triple of the half to tie it at 28. McClellan’s bucket on the ensuing possession sparked a half-ending 10-3 surge, capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Palmer.

Despite missing four of its five shots to begin the second half, Keyshawn Woods hit a triple to get Charlotte within seven before Miami got a three-point play from McClellan and 3-pointer by Lecomte to break the game open with an 18-6 burst. A pair of free throws from Jekiri and two layups by Rodriguez moments later pushed the Hurricanes’ advantage to 63-42 with 8:34 remaining.
