No. 9 Kansas 89, No. 14 Iowa State 76: Wayne Selden Jr. scored 19 of his 20 points in the second half as the Jayhawks cruised to their 20th straight home victory to remain atop the Big 12.

Perry Ellis had 17 points for Kansas (19-3, 8-1 Big 12), which ended a modest two-game skid in this series and avoided its first regular-season sweep by any opponent since Iowa State accomplished the feat in 2000-01. Freshman Kelly Oubre Jr. poured in 16 points, Frank Mason III tallied 12 points and eight assists while Brannen Greene chipped in 11 points for the Jayhawks.

Georges Niang finished with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals for Iowa State (16-5, 6-3), which shot 41.7 percent from the field – its worst field-goal percentage in league play. Bryce Dejean-Jones had 14 points and nine rebounds while Monte Morris scored 12 points and Naz Long supplied 11 for the Cyclones.

Niang connected on two early 3-pointers as Iowa State raced out to a seven-point edge midway through the opening half before Greene hit two triples during a 12-4 surge. After Morris temporarily halted the Jayhawks’ push with a layup with just under six minutes left, Oubre knocked down consecutive 3-pointers as the Jayhawks scored 14 of the final 20 points before the break to take a 35-28 advantage into intermission.

Selden nailed his first two triples and scored eight straight Kansas points to force an Iowa State timeout with 15½ minutes remaining and added two more 3-pointers over the next six minutes to increase Kansas’ margin to 61-45. Oubre and Mason supplied the Jayhawks’ next eight points before Selden drilled his fifth triple of the second half to match Kansas’ largest lead at 72-53 with 4:40 to go.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Jayhawks improved to 186-9 under Bill Self at Allen Fieldhouse and maintained the incredible distinction of winning more consecutive regular-season titles (10) than home losses under their 12th-year coach. … Iowa State entered the contest averaging 22.1 transition points per game (third-best in Division I) and scored 32 in its win against Kansas on Jan. 17, but managed only 12 on Monday – none in the first half. … The Jayhawks finished 10-of-21 beyond the arc and have won 46 consecutive games in which they have hit at least 10 3-pointers.
