Virginia Tech 87, Virginia Military Institute 74: Justin Bibbs led a balanced attack with a career-high 20 points as the host Hokies won their third straight.

Virginia Tech (7-4) held the Keydets - who entered the day tied for first nationally with 88.9 points per game - to a 32.9 percent mark from the floor. Devin Wilson finished with 16 points and six assists and Jalen Hudson scored a career-high 12 points off the bench as the Hokies shot 53.2 percent.

Tim Marshall made five 3-pointers en route to 18 points for VMI (5-7), which fell to 1-20 all-time at Cassell Coliseum. Leading scorer QJ Peterson had 14 points but missed all six of his long-range attempts and was 4-for-18 from the field overall.

Wilson finished an early 10-0 run with a three-point play and Hudson had a steal and a dunk to make it 34-17 with seven minutes to go in the first half. Wilson's 3-pointer before the horn capped a 66.7 percent effort from the field in the opening 20 minutes for Virginia Tech, which took a 51-27 lead into the locker room.

Brian Brown hit two 3-pointers in a span of 17 seconds to get the Keydets within 55-37 in the early stages of the second half and nine straight points by the visitors made it a 13-point margin with 14 minutes to go. VMI kept charging, getting as close as 10 points on Marshall's triple with 3:16 left, but the gap never fell below nine points down the stretch.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia Tech owns an 89-43 advantage in its most-played non-conference series. ...
