Purdue 83, Hofstra 54: Anthony Johnson came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points and 12 players found the scoresheet as the Boilermakers cruised over the visiting Pride in the second round of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Purdue (1-1) dominated on both ends of the floor, shooting 51.6 percent from the field and outrebounding Hofstra by a 47-21 margin.
Sandi Marcius had 11 points and true freshman guard Ronnie Johnson added nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
The only time Purdue trailed was 2-0 as the Boilermakers raced to a 42-17 halftime advantage. Rapheal Davis, Jacob Lawson, and A.J. Hammons each scored eight points for Purdue, which bounced back after losing at home to Bucknell on Friday.
Freshman forward Jimmy Hall paced the Pride (0-2) with a game-high 17 points and Moussa Kone added 12.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The victory was the 100th for Purdue at Mackey Arena since head coach Matt Painter took over eight years ago...The Boilermakers are now 6-1 all-time against members of the Colonial Athletic Association. Purdue will also battle UNC-Wilmington and William & Mary in non-league play this year...Purdue will play Villanova in the next round of the 2K Sports Classic on Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York City...Hofstra will host the Hempstead Subregional of the 2K Sports Classic this coming weekend.
