Tyler Zeller had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Harrison Barnes added 18 points as No. 6 North Carolina rolled to a 100-62 victory over visiting Elon on Thursday.
John Henson had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Tar Heels (12-2) won their sixth consecutive contest and improved to 9-0 at home.
Sebastian Koch scored 17 points and Lucas Troutman had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Elon (7-5), which lost its third straight game.
Henson already had a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) at halftime as North Carolina led 53-19. The Phoenix shot only 20.5 percent in the first half and 33.3 overall.
It was only a four-point differential nine minutes into the game before the Tar Heels exploded with 23 consecutive points over a seven-plus minute span. Kendall Marshall’s 3-pointer with 3:28 remaining gave North Carolina a 41-14 lead.
North Carolina’s advantage reached 50 points at 88-38 on Dexter Strickland’s basket with 8:44 to play. The 100-point game was the Tar Heels’ third of the season.
The Tar Heels outrebounded the Phoenix 57-31 and had 20 offensive rebounds. North Carolina has 73 offensive boards in its last three games.
