Host Georgia survived a second-half push from Wofford to win its season opener, 62-49.
The Bulldogs opened Mark Fox’s third season as head coach with a poor shooting performance, hitting just 33.9 from the field (20 of 59).
Georgia, which had just one turnover in building a 30-21 halftime advantage, looked out of sync for most of the second half. The Terriers (0-1) took advantage, rallying to within 47-42 on two Domas Rinksalis free throws with 6:09 to go.
The Bulldogs held on from there, using a dunk and layup from Nemanja Djurisic to push the lead to 51-42 with 4:51 left.
Freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 15 points in his debut for Georgia. Dustin Ware added 14 points, and Donte’ Williams pulled down 13 rebounds. Brad Loesing led Wofford with 13 points.
Georgia hosts Bowling Green on Sunday. Wofford plays its home opener on Sunday against Emory & Henry.
