CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Point guard Isaiah Thomas scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half to lead No. 7 seed Washington past Georgia 68-65 in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
Thomas also had seven assists as the Huskies (24-10) will meet No. 2 seed North Carolina in the Round of 32 on Sunday.
Trey Thompkins had a game-high 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting and 11 rebounds for No. 10 seed Georgia (21-12).
Georgia corralled Thomas in the first half and held him to 2-of-7 shooting. But in the second half, Thomas began getting to the basket and creating opportunities for his teammates.
The Huskies trailed by two at intermission, but began the second half with a 12-4 run that was punctuated by a Darnell Gant 3-pointer that put Washington ahead 40-32 with 15:18 left.
Georgia clawed back late in the game and pulled to within three points with less than a minute left. The Bulldogs had a shot to tie, but Travis Leslie missed an off-balance, one-handed 3-pointer at the buzzer.
