Trail Blazers 102, Pelicans 93: Damian Lillard had 24 points and seven assists as Portland rallied from 15 points down in the fourth quarter against visiting New Orleans.
LaMarcus Aldridge, who missed Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with a respiratory ailment and was questionable for this game, made the start and scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half and grabbed nine rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have won five straight. Wesley Matthews added 16 points and Chris Kaman scored 15 off the bench for Portland.
Anthony Davis finished with 31 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks to lead the Pelicans, who haven't won in Portland since 2010. Jrue Holiday contributed 14 points and seven rebounds and Tyreke Evans finished with 13 points and eight assists for New Orleans.
Lillard's 3-pointer broke a 93-93 tie with 1:14 left, Evans then missed twice on the other end and Robin Lopez went to the line with 29 seconds on the clock. He sank both for a five-point lead as the Pelicans went the final 4:31 without a field goal, missing their final 10 shots.
The Trail Blazers trailed by 12 entering the final quarter and promptly gave up the first three points before inching their way back within three with 6:03 left. Aldridge twice trimmed the deficit to one before Matthews tied the score at 91 with a 3-pointer with 2:56 left and Lopez converted a layup 33 seconds later following a miss by Davis on the other end, giving Portland its first lead since midway through the second quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pelicans starting C Omer Asik, the team’s fifth-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, missed the game because of lower back pain. ... Lillard, who came into the day leading the NBA in 3-pointers (33) and shooting 46.5 percent from beyond the arc, shot 2-for-7 from deep. ... Portland SF Nicolas Batum missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury, but the team is aiming to bring him back Friday against the Chicago Bulls.
