Humberto Castellanos recorded his first two major league hits and notched his first career win as the Arizona Diamondbacks registered a 4-2 victory over the slumping Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night at Phoenix.
Castellanos (1-1) drove in a run with his second hit and allowed one run and three hits over 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out one as Arizona beat Philadelphia for the second straight night to start the three-game series.
Asdrubal Cabrera and Christian Walker also had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who won for the fifth time in six games.
Odubel Herrera homered and tripled for the Phillies, who lost for the sixth time in their last eight games. Philadelphia fell to 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East.
The Phillies have just seven hits in the first two games of the series. Bryce Harper went hitless in four at-bats to end his streak of reaching base at 24 games.
Arizona's Tyler Clippard issued a one-out walk in the ninth to Didi Gregorius before getting Andrew McCutchen to hit into a fielder's choice and striking out Brad Miller to post his fourth save.
Herrera smacked a one-out homer to right off Caleb Smith in the eighth. Smith's glove was confiscated after the inning when it was checked by the umpiring crew, and the pitcher was ejected by first base ump Tom Hallion.
Herrera's homer was the only hit Smith allowed in 2 2/3 innings.
Philadelphia left-hander Ranger Suarez (5-4) gave up three runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out two.
Castellanos' second hit gave Arizona a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Walker hit a one-out double and scored when Castellanos bounced a two-out single up the middle. The RBI was Castellanos' second of the season.
The Diamondbacks added on in the fifth on Carson Kelly's RBI ground single to left.
Arizona made it 4-1 in the seventh as Pavin Smith singled to center with two outs, moved to second on Bailey Falter's wild pitch and scored on Walker's single to right.
Philadelphia scored in the first inning when Herrera led off with a triple to right and scored on a one-out passed ball by Kelly.
The Diamondbacks knotted the score in the third when Nick Ahmed came home on a wild pitch by Suarez.
