Travis Shaw drove in two runs and starter Corbin Burnes struck out 10 over six strong innings as the host Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field.
The Brewers won their third consecutive series as they took two of three from Chicago for the second time in the span of a week.
The Cubs lost for the sixth time in the past eight games.
Milwaukee got things going early against Jake Arietta (2-1), scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.
Jackie Bradley Jr. led off with a double and scored the game's first run on a one-out single from Shaw.
After Avi Garcia doubled, Shaw came home to make it 2-0 on a deep sacrifice fly to left from Omar Narvaez.
Arrieta got out of the first by striking out Keston Hiura, but the damage was done as Burnes finally had a lead.
Burnes (1-1) gave the Brewers another fantastic start going six innings, giving up two hits and no walks.
In three starts this season, Burnes has given up just one run off four hits in 18 1/3 innings with 30 strikeouts.
Shaw made it a 3-0 game in the third with a two-out home run into the centerfield bullpen.
Arietta went five innings and allowed four hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Chicago replaced Arietta in the sixth with Shelby Miller, the 30-year-old who signed a minor league deal in the offseason and had been promoted from the alternate site on Wednesday.
Miller's first major league appearance since 2019 did not go well as he gave up a pair of singles then walked the next three.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Shelby walked Billy McKinney to make it 4-0, then walked Luis Urias before being pulled.
Justin Steele came in and promptly gave up a two-run single to Burnes, who gave the Brewers a 7-0 lead.
Since Burnes batted, it appeared he was going back to pitch the seventh. But after Milwaukee broke it open with that four-run sixth, Burnes was given the rest of the day off.
