Robbie Ray struck out 10, Eduardo Escobar tripled twice, and Adam Jones had three hits against his former team as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Monday night in Phoenix.
Ray (9-6) won his fourth consecutive start, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings. He fanned three in both the third and fourth innings, helping him strike out double-digit batters for the fourth time this season.
Escobar, who leads the National League with nine three-baggers, gave the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI triple off the center field wall. He ripped a two-out triple into the right field corner in the fourth to chase Baltimore starter Aaron Brooks (2-4). Jones drove in Escobar with a single for a 6-1 lead.
Jones, who spent the past 11 seasons with the Orioles before signing with Arizona in the offseason, went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. He doubled in the third off the glove of first baseman Renato Nunez, who was trying to make an over-the-shoulder catch behind the bag.
Jake Lamb followed with a double into the left-center field gap to make it 4-1. Lamb later scored on a Carson Kelly groundout.
Brooks, picked up off waivers on July 6 from the Oakland A's, gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits, with one strikeout and one walk, in 3 2/3 innings.
Hanser Alberto and Nunez hit solo home runs in the fifth for the Orioles. Nunez has a team-high 23 homers.
Arizona's Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk, his fifth consecutive game with two hits.
The Diamondbacks' bullpen, which gave 16 runs in 14 2/3 innings in the just-concluded four-game series against Milwaukee, pitched three scoreless innings, one each from Yoshihisa Hirano, Stefan Crichton and Greg Holland, who earned his 17th save in 21 chances.
Arizona pounced on Brooks for five hits and three runs in the first inning. Marte got things started with a one-out infield single before Escobar's triple. Christian Walker singled home Escobar and went to second on Jones' single. Nick Ahmed's two-out hit made it 3-0.
