Right-hander Zack Greinke pitched seven strong innings and had another big day at the plate as the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the San Diego Padres 8-4 Sunday in Phoenix.
Arizona avoided a four-game series sweep to the Padres, who had won four in a row.
The Diamondbacks had 13 hits, including three home runs, with pinch hitter David Peralta delivering a three-run shot in the sixth inning.
Greinke (2-1) gave up four hits and two runs, both coming on solo homers, including one to Manuel Margot to lead off the game. He struck out six, walked one and continued to swing a hot bat against the Padres.
Greinke, who slugged two home runs while earning the pitching victory at San Diego on April 2, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored Sunday.
He singled to lead off the third and scored on Ketel Marte's two-run homer that just cleared the wall in left field and gave the Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead.
San Diego tied the game at 2 in the fifth inning on the fifth home run of the season by 20-year-old rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. Greinke was back at it in the bottom of the inning, leading off with a double and scoring when Ildemaro Vargas bounced a double down the first-base line.
Padres starter Eric Lauer (2-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked none.
Greinke is 13-2 in his career against the Padres in 24 starts.
Peralta pushed the Arizona lead to 6-2 in the sixth with the first pinch-hit homer of his career, an opposite-field shot off reliever Matt Wisler. Christian Walker hit reliever's Phil Maton's first pitch of the game over the right field fence to lead off in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-4 lead.
Walker went 3-for-4, with a single, a double and a home run.
Margot, Tatis and Franmil Reyes each had two hits for San Diego. Padres third baseman Manny Machado got his first off day of the season Sunday.
San Diego finished 7-3 on its 10-game road trip.
