Padres 2, Dodgers 1 (10): Will Venable scored from second base on Alexi Amarista’s one-out single in the 10th inning as host San Diego recorded its third straight walk-off victory.
Venable began the inning with a single off Jamey Wright (4-4) and stole second before scoring on Amarista’s bloop single to center field. Tim Stauffer (6-2) worked a scoreless 10th inning for San Diego, which has won four in a row and five of its last six.
Dee Gordon and Hanley Ramirez were a combined 0-for-10 at the top of the order for Los Angeles, which saw its lead over San Francisco in the National League West cut to 2 1/2 games. Nine of the 15 games between the Dodgers and Padres this season have been decided by one run.
San Diego got on the board in the third inning as Rene Rivera belted a leadoff double and later scored on Ian Kennedy’s one-out double. The Dodgers pulled even with two out in the sixth on Adrian Gonzalez’s homer off Kennedy, who yielded one run while striking out eight over seven innings.
Zack Greinke struck out eight and tossed eight innings of one-run ball for the Dodgers, who have scored a total of six runs over their last three games. Los Angeles outfielder Yasiel Puig snapped a 0-for-22 slump with an eighth-inning single but finished 1-for-5 with three strikeouts.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego manager Bud Black was ejected in the top of the 10th inning by first base umpire Clint Fagan for arguing a disputed check swing. … Former Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, who retired with 601 career saves, was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame prior to the game. ... San Diego closer Joaquin Benoit was unavailable due to right shoulder discomfort.
