Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 1: Paul Goldschmidt had four hits and two RBIs while Patrick Corbin allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings as visiting Arizona averted a three-game sweep.
Tuffy Gosewisch had a pair of doubles and an RBI while Willie Bloomquist collected three hits and scored once as the Diamondbacks halted a five-game losing streak at the hands of Los Angeles to stay within nine games of Cincinnati for the second wild card.
Corbin (14-6) yielded eight hits and a walk in snapping his three-start skid. He carried a shutout into the seventh but exited after Yasiel Puig hit his 16th homer. Two relievers bridged the gap to Brad Ziegler, who notched his 10th save.
Los Angeles rookie left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-6) struggled through six innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits to lose for the third time in four starts. Puig and Hanley Ramirez had two hits apiece for the Dodgers, whose magic number for clinching the NL West remained at six.
The Diamondbacks opened the game with three straight singles, including a run-scoring hit by Goldschmidt, and took a 2-0 lead in the first. Gosewisch's first career double plated the third run in the second inning and Goldschmidt made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 to boost his season batting average against the Dodgers to .379 with four homers and 16 RBIs. ... Puig's 16 homers are the most by a Dodgers rookie since Raul Mondesi hit 16 in 1994. Puig's total has come in 87 games. ... LHP Onelki Garcia threw four balls and was pulled in his major-league debut for the Dodgers, who continue their homestand when they open a four-game series against San Francisco on Thursday. The Diamondbacks have a day off before returning home to start a three-game series against Colorado on Friday.
