Phillies 4, Reds 3 (11): John Mayberry Jr. singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th as host Philadelphia overcame a three-run deficit against the Cincinnati bullpen.

The Phillies left runners in scoring position in the ninth and the 10th innings but finally broke through against Alfredo Simon (2-2) in the 11th. Kevin Fransden led off with a single and Chase Utley followed with a double before Ryan Howard was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Simon got Domonic Brown to ground into a fielder’s choice but could not retire Mayberry, who shot a single into right to plate Utley and make a winner out of Raul Valdez (3-2).

Philadelphia denied Johnny Cueto his major league-leading 17th win in the eighth, when they got to the Reds' vaunted bullpen and pushed across the tying run. Brown reached with a one-out single off Sean Marshall, and Sam LeCure came in and allowed two straight singles before Jimmy Rollins’ sacrifice fly pushed Brown across to make it 3-3.

Cueto failed to record an out in the sixth for just the fourth time this season but left with a 3-0 cushion before Jose Arredondo allowed a pair of inherited runners to score. Cueto ended up allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four in his shortest outing since May 25.

Cole Hamels lasted six innings but could not figure out a way to stop Todd Frazier. The rookie came up with the bases loaded in the first and plated a run with an RBI groundout to open the scoring. He struck again in the sixth, following back-to-back singles by Jay Bruce and Ryan Ludwick with a double off the base of the center field wall to plate two more.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies INF Freddy Galvis, who was suspended 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, is off the suspended list but is still recovering from a back injury. … Reds C Devin Mesoraco was reinstated from his two-game suspension and optioned to Triple-A. The team decided to keep Hanigan and Dioner Navarro as the two catchers. RHP J.J. Hoover was recalled to take Mesoraco’s place. Hoover worked two scoreless innings in the contest. … Cincinnati returns home to host St. Louis in a three-game series beginning Friday while the Phillies host the Washington Nationals over the weekend.
