Phillies 4, Astros 3 (10): Hunter Pence belted his second homer of the game, a one-out shot in the 10th inning, to lift visiting Philadelphia to its season-high third straight victory.
Pence's blast off former teammate Brett Myers (0-1), his ninth, helped atone for a fielding error in the ninth inning that plated the tying run for the Astros.
Brian Schneider hit a two-run homer and Cliff Lee struck out a season-high 10 in eight stellar innings for Philadelphia, which sent Houston to its seventh loss in nine games.
Lee, making his fifth start overall and second since coming off the disabled list, was in line for the win until Chad Qualls coughed up a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning. Lee allowed only five hits, including a solo homer to Matt Downs in the seventh, while lowering his ERA to 1.95.
Jake Diekman (1-0) struck out three batters in 1 1/3 innings for the win.
The Astros rallied against Qualls as Jordan Schafer doubled and scored on a single by Carlos Lee. Pinch runner Brian Bogusevic scored the tying run when Pence misplayed J.D. Martinez's single.
With the exception of the two home runs allowed, Houston starter Jordan Lyles (0-1) pitched well in defeat, permitting one earned run on six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pence broke out of a 3-for-29 slump with his first homer, a solo shot in the sixth for a 3-0 lead. ... Martinez collected a pair of hits to break out of a 1-for-35 slump. ... The Phillies had scored only three runs in Lee's first three starts before he went on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain. ... Houston had the lead runner reach base in five of eight innings against Lee. ... Lyles was called up to make the start in place of an injured Kyle Weiland. He was 5-0 at Triple-A Oklahoma City. ... The Phillies visit the Chicago Cubs for a two-game set before beginning interleague play with a three-game home series against the Boston Red Sox. Houston will host Milwaukee for two games before hosting Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers over the weekend.
