White Sox 3, Cubs 1 (12): Marcus Semien doubled down the left-field line to plate the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th as the visiting White Sox outlasted the Cubs in the opener of the Crosstown Cup series.

Jose Quintana and five relievers combined to hold the Cubs to four hits. Daniel Webb (3-0) recorded the final out in the 11th for the win and Matt Lindstrom worked around a hit and a walk in the 12th for his fifth save.

Semien was the only player with multiple hits for either team as the squads combined for just 10 hits. Junior Lake knocked in the Cubs' only run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Quintana retired the first 14 batters before issuing a pair of two-out walks in the fifth, and Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija broke up his no-hit bid with a double down the left-field line in the sixth. Samardzija scored on Lake's sacrifice fly to tie it, and that's where it stayed until the 12th.

The White Sox got a two-out single from Alexei Ramirez and a walk to Tyler Flowers ahead of Semien's double off Justin Grimm (1-1). Grimm then hit Paul Konerko with a pitch and walked Alejandro De Aza with the bases loaded to force home another run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Samardzija allowed one unearned run on three hits over nine innings while Quintana gave up one run on one hit over seven frames. … Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo's error in the fourth inning snapped a 56-game streak without an error dating to Sept. 1, the longest streak by a Cubs first baseman since Derrek Lee's 59-game stretch in 2010. … White Sox 1B Jose Abreu, who was named the American League Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month on Monday, went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly.
