Redshirt freshman Oso Ighodaro came off the bench to score 14 points in a near-perfect shooting performance to lead Marquette to an 83-54 victory over visiting Jackson State in a nonconference game in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
Ighodaro, who had scored a total of 21 points all season for Marquette (7-1), went 6-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line, in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds. Olivier-Maxence Prosper also came off the bench to score 11 for the Golden Eagles, who shot 52.6 precent (30-for-57) from the field and 38.1 percent (8-for-21) from 3-point range.
Justin Lewis and Kur Kuath each had eight points and six rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Kam Jones and Darryl Morsell each added eight points and five assists as Marquette registered 21 assists on its 30 field goals.
Marquette also converted 20 Tigers turnovers into 30 points and outrebounded them 46-38.
The Golden Eagles took control of the game for good by opening the second half on a 14-3 run to take a 43-32 lead on Ighodaro's two-handed slam with 16:42 left in the game. Marquette pushed its lead to as many as 32.
Jackson State (1-6) was led by Jayveous McKinnis, who finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, while Chance Moore added 11 points.
The Tigers shot 30.4 percent (21-for-69) from the field, including 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from 3-point range, but were outscored 54-25 in the second half.
Neither team led by more than three points during an evenly played first half that ended tied at 29.
Ighodaro scored seven points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field in the first half to pace the Golden Eagles, who shot 39.3 percent (11-for-28) from the field and 22.2 percent (2-for-9) from beyond the arc.
The Tigers, led by Moore's eight first-half points off the bench, shot 36.4 percent (12-for-33) from the field and the same percentage from 3-point range (4-for-11).
While both teams grabbed 21 rebounds in the first half, there was a big gap at the free-throw line. Marquette made half of its 10 attempts, with Jackson State going 1-for-2.
