Kansas 75, New Mexico State 56: Frank Mason scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as the Jayhawks rolled past the Aggies in NCAA Tournament round of 64 play at Omaha, Neb.
Perry Ellis added nine points for second-seeded Kansas (27-8), which faces No. 7 Wichita State in Sunday’s round of 32. Landen Lucas grabbed nine rebounds and the Jayhawks went 9-of-13 from 3-point range.
DK Eldridge scored 11 points and Remi Barry and Tshilidzi Nephawe added 10 apiece for No. 15 seed New Mexico State (23-11), which had a 13-game winning streak halted. Daniel Mullings contributed seven points and five steals for the Aggies, who shot 35.7 percent from the field.
Kansas never trailed and opened up a 22-12 lead on a 3-pointer by Ellis just prior to the midway point of the first half. Devonte' Graham hit two 3-pointers during a 10-0 run to increase the margin to 18 points before the Aggies closed strong to cut the Jayhawks’ lead to 36-23 at the break.
A 3-pointer by Kelly Oubre gave Kansas a 49-32 lead with 13:57 remaining and Brannen Greene hit back-to-back 3-pointers as the lead increased to 63-43 with 7:06 remaining. A 3-pointer by Mason pushed the lead to 23 and the Jayhawks cruised to the finish.
