Baylor 74, Iowa 54: Cory Jefferson had 23 points and Pierre Jackson recorded his fourth straight double-double to lead the Bears to their first NIT championship at Madison Square Garden.
Jackson finished with 17 points and 10 assists for Baylor (23-14) while Jefferson had his fourth straight 20-point game on 8-of-11 shooting. Freshman Isaiah Austin went 6-of-7 for 15 points and added nine rebounds, five blocks and four assists.
Aaron White led the Hawkeyes (25-13) with 12 points and Mike Gesell added 13. Roy Devyn Marble, who averaged 24.3 in Iowa's four NIT wins, was held to six points.
Baylor led most of the first half and used a couple of second-half runs to pull away. Iowa got within 28-27 early in the second half but Jefferson capped an 11-2 run with back-to-back dunks for a 39-29 lead with 14:47 left.
Jefferson scored eight straight points during an 10-2 run - including two dunks off Jackson assists - for a 60-39 lead with 6:20 left. The Bears held Iowa to 26.5 percent shooting while outscoring the Hawkeyes 32-14 in the paint.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson (712 points) became the school's single-season scoring leader to break LaceDarius Dunn's 2009-2010 record of 704. Jackson is second in single-season assists (245). ... Baylor senior G A.J. Walton set a school record for career victories with 98, breaking his tie with Quincy Acy (97). ... It is Baylor's first-ever postseason tournament title after runner-up finishes at the 2009 NIT and 1948 NCAA tournaments.
