Washington 72, Washington State 68: Scott Suggs scored 23 points and matched a career high with five 3-pointers as the Huskies handed the visiting Cougars their ninth straight loss.
C.J. Wilcox added 23 points for Washington (16-13, 8-8 Pac-12), which scored eight unanswered points to lead 65-57 with 2:28 remaining. D.J. Shelton hit a 3-pointer to cut the Huskies’ lead to 70-66 with 29 seconds left before Wilcox made two free throws to secure the win.
Brock Motum and Royce Woolridge led Washington State (11-18, 2-14) with 18 points apiece. The Cougars lost their fifth in a row to Washington while committing 18 turnovers.
Washington State led 43-35 after opening the second half on an 11-1 run before the Huskies tied the game at 53 on Desmond Simmons’ basket with 6:45 to play. Shelton had 11 points and DaVonte Lacy scored 10 for the Cougars, who shot 51.3 percent from the field.
The Huskies shot 53.3 percent from the field, but missed 10 of their 27 shots from the foul line. Washington – a game behind Colorado and USC for fifth place in the conference – concludes its regular season at home against the Trojans on Wednesday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington State’s nine-game losing streak is its longest since dropping 14 straight during the 2002-03 season. … Suggs made seven of his 10 shots from the field and has scored 39 points over the last two games. … Ten of the Cougars’ 18 losses have come by seven points or less.
