Evan Smotrycz had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Trey Burke added 15 points as No. 18 Michigan rolled to a 63-50 victory over visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday.
Michigan (8-2) took a 37-17 lead into halftime as Pine Bluff shot just 19 percent from the field. The Golden Grizzlies didn’t reach double figures until 3:27 remained in the half, and by that point, they trailed 32-11.
After the shot went through, Michigan fans chanted, “Double digits.”
Smotrycz was also the catalyst defensively for the Wolverines, as he had a team-high five steals against the Grizzlies (1-6), who committed 16 turnovers and failed to reach the 60-point mark for the seventh straight time.
Burke, a freshman, finished with a team-high seven assists and had six rebounds for the Wolverines, who have won seven of their eight games by 10 or more points. Matt Vogrich came off the bench to add 11 points.
Pine Bluff, which lost for the fourth straight time, was led by Lazabian Jackson’s game-high 23 points. Savalace Townsend, a senior guard, added 13 points.
After trailing by as many as 25 in the second half, Pine Bluff closed with a 26-14 run over the final 12 minutes to make the score respectable.
