Getting extra recognition from college basketball fans hasn’t given Minnesota a big head.
Fresh off of three big victories in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, the Golden Gophers ran their record to 6-0 with an 84-65 victory over North Dakota State Wednesday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
Minnesota, who entered the coaches' poll at No. 17 this week, struggled through the game’s first 10 minutes, and the Bison (3-2) came within three points 29-26 when Michael Tviedt sank a 3-pointer off a Taylor Braun assist.
Minnesota then found its spark and fired off the final 13 points of the half, culminating in a jump shot by Blake Hoffarber with one second to play.
The Bison kept Minnesota’s lead under double digits for much of the second half, but the Golden Gophers eventually pulled away.
Hoffarber led Minnesota with 24 points, and Trevor Mbakwe scored 12.
Tviedt scored 14 points for North Dakota State, and Drew Lundberg had 11 points.
