Zack Wheeler scattered eight hits over eight scoreless innings Tuesday night for the red-hot New York Mets, who locked up another series win with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Miami Marlins.
Wilson Ramos hit a three-run homer and Pete Alonso added a solo blast for the Mets, who have won the first three games of the four-game series and 12 of their past 13 to move two games over .500 (58-56) for the first time since April 24.
New York, which has won five straight series and seven of eight since the All-Star break, earned its fifth consecutive victory.
Miami has dropped five games in a row and seven of eight.
The Marlins generated plenty of traffic against Wheeler (9-6), who allowed at least one baserunner in every inning. However, the right-hander was impressively efficient as he struck out five, walked one and induced 13 ground-ball outs while throwing 101 pitches, including 72 for strikes. It was the second straight scoreless start for Wheeler, who blanked the Chicago White Sox over seven innings while earning the win on Thursday.
Miami hit into three double plays, stranded eight runners and went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
The Mets provided Wheeler the only run he'd need in the bottom of the first, when Todd Frazier laced a two-out RBI double. Ramos homered to center field in the third and Alonso hit his 36th homer -- five shy of the single-season team record -- in the fifth.
Hector Noesi (0-1) took the loss for the Marlins in his first major league appearance since June 15, 2015. Noesi, who pitched the previous three seasons in South Korea, allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings. He also singled in the third for his first hit in the bigs since 2012.
J.D. Davis finished with two runs and two hits for the Mets, who also got two hits from Jeff McNeil. Robert Gsellman pitched around a hit batter and a single to throw a scoreless ninth inning.
Jon Berti, Garrett Cooper and Lewis Brinson each had two hits each for the Marlins.
