SAN FRANCISCO -- With his blast heading toward the giant Coke bottle atop the left-field bleachers at AT&T Park on Saturday night, San Diego Padres first baseman Wil Myers had to watch.

"That's my best bullet," the slugger proudly boasted after he crushed a three-run home run to cap an eight-run sixth inning that allowed the Padres to erase a deficit en route to a 12-4 triumph over the San Francisco Giants.

Allen Cordoba added a three-run homer of his own as part of a 14-hit attack that allowed the Padres to put up a season-best run total and even the three-game series after having lost the opener 4-3 on Friday night.

The Padres exploded against the San Francisco bullpen after Giants starter Matt Cain had pitched five innings of one-run ball and left with a 3-1 lead.

A run-scoring double by Ryan Schimpf and an RBI single by Austin Hedges drew the Padres even against Giants right-hander Chris Stratton (0-1).

After Stratton walked Erick Aybar to load the bases, he was replaced by right-hander Neil Ramirez, who proceeded to walk pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez to force in the tie-breaking run.

"That's the key to the inning," Padres manager Andy Green said of Sanchez's walk, which came on a full count and was just his third of the season. "I don't think the guys realize how one at-bat affects the next. You get a walk, it puts pressure on the pitcher, forces him to come into the zone."

Manuel Margot's single and Cory Spangenberg's fielder's choice grounder produced two more runs before Myers unleashed a rocket that went two-thirds of the way up the bleachers, increasing the San Diego lead to 9-3.

"When you belt one like that, you want to see where it ends up," Myers said of his sixth homer of the season, which was conservatively measured at 433 feet. "I'm happy to say I got all of it."

Cordoba's home run, his second, also came against Ramirez and made it a 12-4 game an inning later.

"We were trying to give some guys the day off," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of using Stratton and Ramirez in a close game. "It's tough when your two guys you look at to give you length, they both struggled."

Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (3-3), lifted for a pinch hitter during the big sixth inning, got the win. He allowed three runs and five hits in his five innings.

Myers had three hits and Schimpf scored three runs for the Padres, who had lost six of their previous seven games overall and eight of their last nine on the road.

Schimpf, Hedges, Aybar, Margot and Yangervis Solarte had two hits apiece in San Diego's second win in six games on their current trip.

"That's the first time this year," Myers said of the offensive explosion, which resulted in four more runs than the Padres had scored in any previous game. "It would be good to build off that."

Conor Gillaspie had a double, single and two runs scored, and Eduardo Nunez collected a pair of hits for the Giants, who haven't won consecutive games since April 9-10.

Cain pitched around six hits before leaving for a pinch hitter in the fifth inning, having allowed just one run. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

Seeking a fourth straight win, he did not get a decision.

It was Cain's fourth consecutive start allowing no more than one run in no fewer than five innings.

"It's been awhile," the veteran said of recapturing the form from earlier in his career. "It feels good. It definitely feels good. But the biggest thing for me is not being complacent with it."
