MILWAUKEE -- Adam Lind homered and Gerardo Parra had two extra-base hits as the Milwaukee Brewers avoided a sweep with a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
With right fielder Ryan Braun and third baseman Aramis Ramirez getting the day off, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke cobbled together a makeshift lineup that had light-hitting backup outfielder Logan Schafer batting second and Gerardo Parra third.
Schafer, though, doubled and singled in his first two at-bats and Parra tripled and doubled in the third and fifth, scoring both times.
First baseman Adam Lind hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third off Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
The Brewers tacked on three more in the fifth with three doubles and an RBI single by third baseman Hector Gomez, bringing Lynn's day to an end after giving up 10 hits over five innings.
St. Louis got on the board in the fourth when Jon Jay scored on shortstop Jhonny Peralta's base hit. Left fielder Mark Reynolds led off the fifth with a solo home run, his first of the season.
But the Cardinals stranded runners in each of the first eight innings and were 2-for-10 on the day with runners in scoring position.
Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers lasted just four innings. He gave up nine hits and struck out six but the Brewers' bullpen, anchored by two scoreless innings from right-hander Michael Blazek (12) -- and capped off by right-hander Francisco Rodriguez's third save of the season -- held the Cardinals at bay.
