Rangers 7, Twins 2: Elvis Andrus delivered a two-run double among his three hits while Chris Gimenez also drove in a pair with a two-base hit to pace visiting Texas in the opener of a four-game series.
Nick Tepesch (2-0) won consecutive starts for the first time in his career after yielding two runs in 6 2/3 innings for the Rangers, who improved to 4-1 on their 11-game road trip. Michael Choice recorded an RBI double, Leonys Martin drove in a run and Alex Rios had two hits and scored twice as all six Texas RBIs came with two outs.
Trevor Plouffe homered, Eduardo Escobar (two hits) drove in a run, and Aaron Hicks and Kurt Suzuki each had two hits for Minnesota, which has been outscored 23-6 during a four-game losing streak. Kevin Correia (2-6) fell to 1-4 in six home outings this season after allowing four runs in seven innings.
Texas went ahead 2-1 in the second when Gimenez (two hits, two runs scored) singled off Correia's foot, with Alex Rios scoring on Correia's wild throw to first, and Choice doubled two batters later to plate Gimenez. The Twins tied it in the bottom half on Eduardo Escobar's two-out flare single to left which scored Josh Willingham.
Rougned Odor and Shin-Soo Choo singled with two out in the fifth before Andrus laced a double into the left-center gap to drive them home. The Rangers put it away with three runs in the eighth when Gimenez doubled down the left-field line to knock in Andrus and Rios, and scored on Martin's single.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rangers' Ron Washington managed his 1,186th game, tying him with Bobby Valentine for the most in Washington/Texas franchise history. Washington has won a franchise-record 637 games. ... Texas, which has won six straight day contests, improved to 6-3 without Prince Fielder, who is out for the season (neck). ... LF Willingham (hand) and RF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) returned to the Twins lineup after being out since April 7 and 9, respectively, and were a combined 1-for-7. Minnesota made room on the roster by sending Chris Colabello and Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester.
