Giants 8, Dodgers 4: Brandon Hicks doubled twice and scored two times as San Francisco spoiled the home opener for Los Angeles by recording all its runs in the first two innings.

Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong couldn’t earn the victory despite an early cushion, getting tagged for four earned runs and seven hits in four innings, leaving David Huff (1-0) to earn the victory after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Vogelsong helped himself with a two-run single in the six-run first inning and Michael Morse also drove in two runs for San Francisco.

Andre Ethier had two hits and two RBIs and Hanley Ramirez and Dee Gordon collected two hits apiece for the Dodgers. Los Angeles left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-1) threw just two innings in his third start in six games - his shortest outing since joining the Dodgers before last season - allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits.

The Dodgers made a late lineup change with Matt Kemp replacing Yasiel Puig in center field after the 23-year-old Cuban showed up late for pre-game warm-ups, and the distraction seemed to carry over to start of the game as the Giants were helped by some erratic pitching and defense by the Dodgers. Vogelsong gave up back-to-back home runs to left-handers Adrian Gonzalez and Ethier in the fourth inning and couldn’t record an out in the fifth as the Dodgers scored two more runs to make it 8-4.

The Dodgers had a runner reach third with one out in the fourth and sixth innings but couldn’t produce and had a replay overturn a stolen base by Ramirez that resulted in the first out in the seventh. Meanwhile, four Los Angeles relievers combined to keep the Giants off the bases in the final seven innings with the exception of Angel Pagan, who walked to lead off the sixth but was erased trying to steal second.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers had won the three previous games when it had allowed six runs in an inning. … Vogelsong, who allowed 40 percent of his earned runs in the fifth inning last season, allowed two of his four earned runs in the fifth. … Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch, called the 65th home opener of his career with the Dodgers.
