Dodgers 6, Rockies 1 (6): Clayton Kershaw struck out nine in five strong innings while Matt Kemp had two hits and two RBIs as visiting Los Angeles defeated Colorado in the rain-shortened game.
Jamie Romak and Miguel Rojas each added their first major-league hit and RBI, and Hanley Ramirez homered for the Dodgers. Kershaw (5-2) allowed one run and three hits to win for the third time in four starts before the game was stopped in the top of the sixth inning and called after a delay of one hour, 35 minutes.
Troy Tulowitzki belted a solo homer for the Rockies, who lost for the ninth time in 10 games. Colorado starter Jorge De La Rosa (6-5) yielded five runs on four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings to lose his second straight game after winning his previous six decisions.
Chone Figgins and Ramirez drew back-to-back walks to open the game and both scored on Kemp’s one-out triple to left-center field. Tulowitzki cut the lead in half in the fourth, hammering the first pitch he saw from Kershaw into the left-field seats for his 17th of the season.
The Dodgers broke it open in the sixth before the worst weather arrived as Ramirez slammed a De La Rosa pitch way over the left-field fence and added they three more for a 6-1 lead. Two walks set the table for Romak’s two-run double to deep center and Rojas singled up the middle to plate another.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kershaw joined Sandy Koufax (1963, 1965) and Don Drysdale (1963) as the only Dodgers pitchers since the team moved to Los Angeles in 1958 who have struck out at least nine in a game without walking a batter four times in a single season. … Tulowitzki’s homer was the 172nd of his career, tying Andres Galarraga for fifth-most in franchise history for Colorado. … Los Angeles 2B Dee Gordon (right hip discomfort) and RF Yasiel Puig (left hip flexor strain) were both held out of the lineup Sunday after leaving during Saturday’s game.
