Indians 9, Yankees 3:
Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a three-run triple and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as Cleveland came alive late and earned a split of the four-game series with visiting New York.

Michael Brantley plated Cabrera with a sacrifice fly in the four-run frame and added an RBI single in a five-run eighth for the Indians, who climbed back within a game of .500 at 45-46. Carlos Carrasco (2-3) picked up the win with a perfect inning of relief and Roberto Perez homered in his major-league debut as Cleveland pounded out 15 hits.

Zelous Wheeler smacked a two-run homer and David Phelps worked six-plus solid innings for the Yankees. Yangervis Solarte added an RBI single, but left-hander Matt Thornton (0-3) yielded Cabrera’s triple and could not hold a lead in relief.

The Indians put at least one runner on base in each of the first five innings but did not push a run across until the seventh, when the first two batters singled. Thornton entered and surrendered an infield single by Jason Kipnis before Cabrera took a first-pitch fastball into the corner in right to clear the bases before scampering home on Brantley’s liner to center.

Perez and Carlos Santana sandwiched two-run homers around Brantley’s run-scoring single in the eighth as Cleveland put it away. Wheeler’s second major-league home run in the fourth gave New York the lead and Solarte’s single in the following frame made it a 3-0 advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees All-Star RHP Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn right ulnar collateral ligament and will miss at least six weeks while attempting non-surgical rehab. If it is unsuccessful, the Japanese ace likely will undergo Tommy John surgery. … Solarte was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to the contest, while OF Carlos Beltran was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list. … Cleveland starter T.J. House permitted three runs on eight hits and two walks in 4 2/3 frames, but five relievers kept New York scoreless the rest of the way.
