Arismendy Alcantara also went deep and Justin Ruggiano added two hits and two RBIs for the Cubs, who snapped a five-game skid. Hendricks (1-0) struck out five while allowing five hits and three walks in his second career start.
Brooks Conrad recorded the only extra-base hit among five hits for the Padres. Eric Stults (3-12) registered seven strikeouts but permitted three runs and six hits over five innings to add to his NL-leading loss total.
After Ruggiano's sacrifice fly in the first frame got the Cubs on the board, Rizzo launched his career-high 24th homer to right field in the second for a 2-0 lead. Ruggiano tacked on an RBI single in the fifth before Alcantara and Rizzo went back-to-back in the seventh, and Welington Castillo added an RBI double later in the frame to cap the scoring.
The Padres went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and didn't manage a hit in two innings against the Cubs' bullpen. San Diego also hit into four double plays as Chicago recorded its seventh shutout of the season.
