Rays 6, Padres 3: Ryan Roberts and Ben Zobrist each delivered two-run singles as Tampa Bay scored four times in the seventh inning and held on to beat visiting San Diego.

Evan Longoria added two hits and an RBI while Matt Joyce had a pair of singles and scored twice for the Rays, who won their third straight. Jake McGee (1-2) pitched a perfect seventh to earn the victory and Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Rays starter Alex Cobb became the first pitcher in major-league history to strike out 13 batters in fewer than five innings. Cobb left after 4 2/3 innings and 117 pitches, allowing five hits, two walks and three runs.

Will Venable and Carlos Quentin belted solo homers in the first inning for the Padres, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. San Diego starter Edinson Volquez gave up three hits and two runs over the first six innings before Dale Thayer (0-2) was reached for four runs - three earned - in the seventh.

The Padres made it 3-0 in the third when Venable reached on a wild pitch after striking out, stole two bases and scored on a balk. Longoria’s RBI bloop single in the bottom of the third helped pull the Rays within 3-2 before an error and singles by Jose Lobaton and Joyce set up the rally in the seventh.

GAME NOTEBOOK: It was the first time a Tampa Bay starting pitcher did not last at least five innings in 2013. The Rays’ 34-game streak was the second-longest to start a season since 1916. … San Diego 3B Chase Headley saw his 13-game hitting streak end, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. … The Rays recalled RHP Josh Lueke from Triple-A Durham and placed RHP Brandon Gomes on the 15-day disabled list. Lueke struck out two and did not allow a hit in 1 1/3 innings after relieving Cobb.
