Mariners 8, Twins 2: Rookie Nick Franklin capped a six-run second inning with a three-run homer as host Seattle rolled to its ninth win in 10 games.
Dustin Ackley recorded three hits and two RBIs while Hisashi Iwakuma tossed six scoreless innings for the Mariners, who improved to 3-1 on their seven-game homestand.
Mike Zunino and Ackley hit consecutive RBI singles in the second off Kevin Correia (7-7) before rookie Brad Miller delivered a run-scoring double that made it 3-0. Franklin followed with his eighth blast, a shot to right-center field on an 0-2 pitch that doubled the lead.
Henry Blanco and Ackley added RBI doubles in the fifth to secure the win for Iwakuma (10-4), who yielded four singles and a walk while striking out nine. The 32-year-old native of Japan has allowed two unearned runs over 26 2/3 frames in going 4-0 in four career starts against Minnesota.
Correia was tagged for six runs and seven hits while retiring only five batters. Chris Herrmann and Doug Bernier hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the ninth for the Twins, who have scored a total of two runs in their last two games after posting a 10-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle C Zunino left the game after four innings with a hand injury. The rookie took a foul tip off his left hand in the fourth and was replaced by Blanco to start the fifth. ... The Mariners improved to 14-6 in July. ... The Twins have lost two straight contests after winning six of their previous seven.
