Mariners 6, Angels 0: Kyle Seager homered and had three RBIs and Brandon Maurer pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings as host Seattle upended Los Angeles.
Jason Bay had a two-run single and Carlos Peguero homered as the Mariners won for only the third time in 10 games. Maurer (2-3) allowed seven hits and one walk and struck out six.
Peguero led off the Seattle third with a mammoth 451-foot homer to center off Angels starter Garrett Richards (1-1). Seager added a run-scoring single later in the inning and capped the scoring with a booming two-run homer to right off Nick Maronde in the eighth.
The Mariners loaded the bases in the seventh on two walks and a single by Dustin Ackley before Bay delivered a bases-loaded single in the seventh to push Seattle’s lead to 4-0.
Richards allowed five runs and nine hits in seven-plus innings as he continues to fill the rotation spot of injured Jered Weaver.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles star Albert Pujols (foot) started at first base for the first time since April 15 and went 1-for-4. Pujols had been serving as the designated hitter. … Seager went 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. OF Endy Chavez also had three hits. … Angels RHP Tommy Hanson is tentatively slated to come off the bereavement list to start Monday’s game in Oakland, according to manager Mike Scioscia.
